TOUCH
So we just got done visiting at St. John's Skilled Nursing tonight. I had a really busy day earlier - business headaches, phone calls, bills, red tape this & that. Even had to deal with my accountant (taxes) :( Right now though all that is a distant memory - what's on my mind is how happy some of those people were to see us today. One lady, she never remembers us from previous visits. It's brand new for her every time we come in. She gets so excited, so overcome when she sees Apollo. Kinda makes it hard to dwell on life's crap when you see that. My head is a lot clearer now...

Interesting Story
From our friends Susan & Tom:
Hi doggie friends,
You won't believe what happened to my Mom and Dad and their little Maltese, Lilah, this past week. It's an unbelievable story, but at least it ends on a good note!
They took Lilah to be groomed on Monday Dec 22 at 9:30. They called the groomer at noon (when she was typically finished) and found out that they hadn't even started her yet. They picked her up about 3:30 and brought her home. She didn't seem very happy to be there and kept acting like her bottom or back legs were irritated and they were very red. She was shaved very shortly, her tail wasn't kept as full, and her eyes were cut very closely and red. She wouldn't let Mom and Dad pick her up or jump on the couch, which was extremely unusual since she is typically a lap dog. She was also growly and very reactive, which again was so out of character for Lilah. She also wouldn't eat much and barked all night long in her crate at night.
They talked to the groomer several times to make sure nothing had happened to her and the owner and groomers insisted that nothing out of the ordinary happened, just some typical grumpiness when her nails were being cut.
Mom and Dad took Lilah to the vet the next day and he checked her out and gave her an anti-inflammatory shot since her skin was red and irritated. He told them to bring her back after Christmas if she was still acting unusual and they would do blood work and x-rays, etc. He was also concerned because she had lost 2 pounds since the last visit - - she was 8 lbs. instead of 10 lbs.
On Christmas, Lilah even bit my dad when he attempted to get a sock away from her, and he had to go get treated and antibiotics for the injury.
Mom and Dad continued to notice odd behaviors and started writing a list - - which ended up being very long - - of unusual things about Lilah. She was very reactive and startled by typical noises of the house, played with toys that she never touches and ignored her favorites, and didn't react to typical words, names, her name, etc. Not to mention a few subtle physical differences that didn't seem right, although they weren't able to touch her much to examine her.
They took her to the vet again on Monday and both nurses and the vet could not find Lilah's microchip. They brought her back in on Tuesday to sedate her and try to get xrays, check for microchip, and start blood work.
In the meantime, the groomer finally called back on Tuesday. Mom again explained their concerns and that this is the 3rd vet visit and they are sedating the dog currently and that they weren't able to find the microchip yesterday, etc. They grooming place finally did some checking, called another family who had a Maltese there that day, and figured out that they had switched the dogs!!!
The other family said that Lilah was jumping on their furniture, afraid of the man in the house, and not eating much, which was unusual for their dog (named Lexie - - another "L" name - - strange!). Also, Lexi did not have a microchip, unlike Lilah - - a dead giveaway!!!
Thankfully, Mom and Dad got the real Lilah back today and she was loving on all of us and jumped in my Mom's lap right away - - so excited to be home. It was a tear jerking moment! Thankfully she seems ok (despite having been given the allergy and separation anxiety (!) medicine that the other dog took for several days!) And, we found out that Lexie had her shots, so Dad doesn't have to worry about rabies, but she still has to be quarantined for 10 days by law. The groomer is paying all of the fees and treatment costs for my Dad's injury, but that will never make up for the pain & suffering. Thankfully she's back home and ready to be spoiled to pieces!
What a crazy week it's been! The Changeling Maltese!!

I love you Apollo!!!!
